Cloud Computing Dominance Gives Alphabet Edge Over Meta
Alphabet's latest results show the tech giant's focus on cloud computing and AI is paying off. The company posted $119.80B in revenue, up 24.2% year over year, with Google Cloud growing 82%. Gemini Enterprise adoption across the Fortune 100 accelerated to nearly 90%, according to CEO Sundar Pichai. The Gemini App now counts 950 million monthly active users.
Meta Platforms, on the other hand, missed EPS expectations despite strong revenue growth of 28% YoY. Total costs jumped 55% to $42.03B, compressing operating margin to 31% from 43%. Meta's reliance on ad targeting powered by its Muse family and a fresh push into agentic products is not yet translating into the same level of growth as Alphabet's diversified business.
Alphabet's data moat spanning Search, YouTube, Android, and Cloud infrastructure makes Gemini Spark structurally harder to replicate than Meta's advertising-driven Muse flywheel. While Meta is investing heavily in its own chips, models, and data centers, Alphabet owns the entire pipeline with its underlying data ecosystem. The company raised roughly $70B in combined equity and debt, while suspending buybacks.
