Cloud Giants to Ramp Up AI Spending by Over 50%
Goldman Sachs analysts have forecasted that major cloud service providers will significantly increase their spending on AI infrastructure, according to a recent report.
The top five U.S. cloud service providers, Amazon, Alphabet, Microsoft, Oracle, and Meta Platforms Inc., are expected to spend over $1.2 trillion on AI infrastructure in 2027, representing a 50% growth from this year's projected spending of $800 billion.
This surge in capital expenditures is driven by the growing demand for AI capabilities among these companies, which rely heavily on their ability to enhance and scale their AI services.
However, Goldman Sachs also notes that current capital expenditures have exceeded operating cash flow, leading to increased reliance on debt and equity financing. This trend raises concerns about future growth, particularly in the context of ongoing shortages in power, labor, and storage chips.
