Coca-Cola Brings Back Retro Favorites with a Twist
The World of Coca-Cola in Atlanta, Georgia has quietly brought back two discontinued drinks, Five Alive and Delaware Punch. However, there's a catch - neither recreation is an exact replica of the original.
Delaware Punch was created in 1913 by Thomas E. Lyons in San Antonio, Texas, despite its name suggesting it originated from Delaware. The drink was non-carbonated and caffeine-free, with a sweet fruit-punch taste and strong grape flavor.
Coca-Cola acquired the brand but discontinued it in the U.S. in 2020 as part of their efforts to cut back on smaller regional brands. Now, visitors to the World of Coca-Cola can order Delaware Punch through the Freestyle machine, although there's no guarantee it will taste like the original bottled drink.
Five Alive, on the other hand, was a Minute Maid beverage that mixed five different fruit juices, including orange, grapefruit, lemon, tangerine, and lime. It gained popularity in the late 1970s and 1980s but eventually disappeared from American shelves. The brand still exists in Canada and some international markets.
While Five Alive is being served as a Fanta-based Freestyle creation at the World of Coca-Cola, it's not the same non-carbonated juice drink that fans remember.
