Coca-Cola Ditches Plastic Wrap in Multipack Pilot
The Coca-Cola Company has announced the launch of a pilot program in France and Germany to test a new multipack packaging format without plastic film. The secondary packaging solution, developed with strategic bottling partner Coca-Cola Europacific Partners, replaces plastic wrap on large PET multipacks with glue dots and a recyclable cardboard handle.
The pack is designed to be stable and easy to carry, with the glue dots holding securely during transport and shelf handling. To address consumer unfamiliarity with glue dots, in-store marketing will provide clear instructions for separating the bottles.
The pilot program aims to test the feasibility, shopper acceptance, and packaging performance of the new format. The recyclable cardboard handle can be placed in standard paper/cardboard recycling once the bottles are removed, making it easy for consumers to recycle the pack.
Coca-Cola's efforts to reduce packaging waste and improve recyclability align with its broader portfolio of secondary packaging solutions in Europe, including KeelClip, LitePacTop, and CanCollar.
