Coca-Cola Foundation Joins Forces with Godavari Initiative to Promote Collective Water Action
The Water Stewardship Dialogue 2026 brought together senior leaders from industry, government, civil society, and technical institutions in Mumbai to discuss collective water action. The event focused on building water resilience through shared intelligence, aligned investment, and sustained collaboration across institutions.
The Godavari Initiative (TGI), a basin-level collective action platform, celebrated its second anniversary during the dialogue. TGI aims to strengthen source sustainability and secure a more resilient future for the Godavari River Basin. The initiative began with Diageo India as the Basin Champion and has since expanded its ecosystem of partners and developed an Impact Aggregator.
The Coca-Cola Foundation will now step forward as the next Basin Champion, building on the foundation established by Diageo India. Carlos Pagoaga, President of The Coca-Cola Foundation, stated that healthy watersheds are critical to local communities, and their support for nature-based solutions helps protect water resources and restore landscapes.
TGI is expanding its engagement from Maharashtra into Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, reflecting the hydrological reality that a river basin cannot be approached through administrative boundaries alone. The initiative's next phase will focus on deeper on-ground action, stronger government convergence, and measurable outcomes across priority landscapes.
