Coca-Cola Hit by Ransomware Attack as Anubis Cybercrime Group Demands Data Release

Coca-Cola has confirmed that it was breached by a ransomware attack on its Fairlife subsidiary, which led to the theft of sensitive company data. The attack was carried out by the Anubis cybercrime group, who have a reputation for using a ruthless double-extortion playbook.

The incident occurred in mid-July, with Fairlife's production being suspended as a result. However, it has now resumed at most facilities, and shelves remain stocked with Fairlife products.

Anubis is known to encrypt files to lock companies out of their systems, then exfiltrate sensitive data as insurance. If victims refuse to pay the ransom, the stolen files get leaked. The group's wiper mode permanently deletes files beyond recovery, making negotiation failures permanent data loss.
