Coca-Cola India Foundation Tackles PET Waste During Ganesh Chaturthi Celebrations
The Coca-Cola India Foundation and Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages have launched an initiative to promote responsible PET waste collection during Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations in Mumbai and Thane.
The 10-day initiative, which started on September 16 and will conclude on September 25, aims to collect used PET bottles at four high-traffic locations: Ganesh Gully, Thane Cha Raja, Nare Park/Parel Cha Raja, and Rangari.
Safai Saathis are supporting the collection efforts on the ground, and the collected PET will be handed over to recycling partners. This initiative is part of the broader Maidaan Saaf campaign, which focuses on promoting responsible plastic waste collection, segregation, and recycling at high-footfall cultural events.
Devyani R L Rana, Vice President- Public Affairs, Communications & Sustainability, Coca-Cola India and Southwest Asia, said, 'Mumbai's Ganeshotsav is a powerful expression of community, bringing millions of people together in celebration. At this scale, waste management is not just about keeping public spaces clean; it is about building systems that enable people, communities, and partners to participate in a more responsible way.'
The initiative also includes the transformation of discarded materials into a 'Waste to Wonder' mural in collaboration with street artists Doodle Mapuls. Street plays are being organized to encourage visitors to adopt responsible disposal practices.
