Coca-Cola-Mentos Explosion Video Sparks AI Authenticity Questions
A recent viral video has left many questioning its authenticity after it appeared to show a man being launched into the air by an explosion caused by Coca-Cola and Mentos.
The footage, reportedly created using AI technology, shows a Coca-Cola truck leaking a large quantity of soda onto the road. A nearby Mentos truck is then opened, releasing crates of the candy, which seemingly combine with the spilled Coke to produce a massive burst of smoke, foam, and fizz.
The reaction becomes even more dramatic as the force appears to launch the man high into the air, turning the scene into what looks like a chaotic experiment gone wrong. However, social media users quickly spotted a clue that gave away the video's artificial origins: the crates in the clip are labelled 'mentes' instead of 'Mentos', with users pointing to this misspelling as evidence that the footage was AI-generated.
The creator of the original clip, TechHalla, used GPT Image 2.5 to generate still images and Seedance 2.5 to animate them. The process used to produce the footage has been shared with viewers, offering a behind-the-scenes look at how the highly realistic-looking video was created.
