Coca-Cola-Pepsi Clash Sparks Headaches for PNG Chiefs

The PNG Chiefs are set to face an awkward situation when they enter the NRL in 2028, thanks to their partnership with Coca-Cola and the team's marquee player, Jerome Luai, being a brand ambassador for Pepsi.

Luai has signed on as the face of Pepsi in Papua New Guinea, which creates a conflict with the Chiefs' multi-million-dollar deal with Coke. The partnership will see Coke branding prominently featured on the playing sleeves of the men's jersey and across various platforms.

Chiefs CEO Lorna McPherson acknowledged the potential issue but stated that Luai can continue his individual endorsement deal with Pepsi, which is reportedly worth around $300,000 per year. The club's contract with Luai is valued at over $5 million, tax-free.
