Coca-Cola System Invests Big in Nigerian Economy
The Coca-Cola system has made significant contributions to Nigeria's economy, according to a recent economic impact study. The study found that in 2024, the Coca-Cola system sourced nearly $601 million worth of goods and services from local suppliers in Nigeria.
This marks a major milestone for Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC) Ltd, which celebrated its 75th anniversary in Abuja last month. NBC has expanded significantly since its first production run in Ebute Metta, Lagos, in 1951, growing to eight plants, 11 depots, and 52 commercial territories across Nigeria.
The Coca-Cola system's operations have supported employment, local supply chains, talent development, and community investment. The company has committed to investing up to $1 billion in Nigeria over five years, subject to a predictable and enabling business environment. This commitment includes expanding manufacturing capacity at its Asejire Plant in Oyo State and Challawa Plant in Kano State.
Zoran Bogdanovic, Chief Executive Officer of Coca-Cola HBC, reaffirmed the Group's commitment to continued investment in Nigeria. He also announced a $1.25 million commitment by the Coca-Cola HBC Foundation to support young Nigerian entrepreneurs over the next three years, particularly those operating in the hospitality and food service sector.
