Coca-Cola Workers Strike Over Low Wages and Benefits in Indiana
A strike has begun at Coca-Cola Consolidated's facility in Anderson, Indiana, as union workers demand better pay and benefits. For over a week, around 40 workers have been picketing outside the truck lot, represented by Teamsters Local 135. Union officials claim that the company engaged in unfair labor practices during contract negotiations.
Forty-eight employees went on strike after voting down proposals from Coca-Cola Consolidated due to low wages and inadequate healthcare benefits. The union claims workers are making less than the living wage for Madison County, which is $28 per hour for a household with two adults and two children.
The company maintains that it has been bargaining in good faith throughout negotiations and 'believes it has provided a fair and competitive contract.' However, union president Dustin Roach says workers are willing to return to the bargaining table if the company is willing to start negotiations again.
