Coca-Cola's Dividend Dominance Under Scrutiny Amid Rising Stock Price

Coca-Cola's record-breaking dividend streak has raised questions about whether it still delivers for investors. The company recently declared its quarterly dividend, extending a 60-year consecutive annual increase streak. Coca-Cola paid $8.8 billion in dividends last year and saw its quarterly rate climb from $0.41 in 2020 to $0.53 this year.

The current yield sits at around 2.32%, which is above the S&P 500 average but a byproduct of price appreciation working against income buyers. The stock has risen 27.57% year-to-date and 31.19% over the last year, reducing the purchasing power of new money.

Coca-Cola's payout ratio in the high 60s may leave less room for buybacks despite a $5.2 billion repurchase authorization. However, management can support it, and the company's balance sheet supports its dividend payments.
