Coconut Creek Couple Loses Money to Microsoft Support Scam

A Coconut Creek couple in their 80s fell victim to scammers posing as Microsoft support representatives, according to the local police department.

The couple received a computer pop-up that appeared to be from Microsoft and instructed them to enter their phone number. The scammers then told the couple that hackers had taken over their bank accounts and needed them to buy gift cards to protect their money.

The couple was directed on where to purchase the cards and how much money to load onto them, staying on the phone with the scammers throughout the process.

However, they eventually realized it was a scam, but unfortunately, the money was already lost. The police department did not disclose the amount of money lost.
