Coinbase Seeks CFTC Approval for US-Listed Single-Stock Perpetual Futures
Coinbase Financial Markets has taken another step towards bringing single-stock perpetual futures to the US market by submitting a filing with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). The initial contracts will cover Apple, Tesla, and Nvidia.
Perpetual futures are a type of derivative that allows traders to take leveraged long or short positions in an underlying asset without owning it. They have historically been associated with offshore crypto exchanges but could now become available on regulated US platforms.
The filing is part of Coinbase's broader strategy to build regulated derivatives infrastructure domestically. By obtaining Designated Contract Market status, the company has a venue through which products can be brought into the CFTC framework, potentially paving the way for a wider range of equities in the future.
