Colombia Teams Up With Microsoft to Train in Artificial Intelligence
Colombia is seeking to partner with Microsoft to develop a pilot program focused on training young people and adults in artificial intelligence (AI). According to Vice President Jose Manuel Restrepo, the initiative will explore cooperation in quantum computing as part of the government's plans to expand the use of emerging technologies in Colombia.
Restrepo met with the president of Global Affairs at Microsoft to discuss the proposal, which aims to initially be a pilot program carried out in cooperation with the technology company. The vice president noted that Colombia currently ranks second in Latin America for AI use and first in the region for growth in adoption, citing figures from a Microsoft annual report.
The development of AI is among the technological priorities of President Abelardo de la Espriella's administration, Restrepo added. De la Espriella has also announced that David Velez, founder of Nubank, will serve as his main ad honorem adviser on artificial intelligence to help lead the government's AI strategy and develop plans to reduce the State's operating costs.
