Community Demands Justice for Day Laborer Killed in ICE Operation
Community members and immigrant rights advocates gathered outside the Monrovia Home Depot on August 15, 2026, to mark one year since the death of Carlos Roberto Montoya, a 52-year-old day laborer. The vigil was held in remembrance of Montoya's life and as a public demand for justice.
Montoya had been working at the Home Depot parking lot when ICE agents appeared on August 14, 2025. He ran across Evergreen Avenue and fled into the eastbound lanes of the 210 freeway, where he was struck by an SUV.
The Rev. Francisco Garcia with the Sacred Resistance Task Force led a vigil for Montoya, along with anti-ICE protesters chanting 'Not one more Life.'
