Companies Must Give Girls and Women Space to Flex Their Power
At Women Deliver 2023, Save the Children brought together young women and girl leaders to share their perspectives on addressing issues like education and early marriage. This delegation showed how direct insight from girls and women is crucial in shaping international community efforts.
The organization notes that private sector stakeholders often market gender equality initiatives as 'girls' empowerment,' but in reality, girls and women already have power. What they need is space to flex their power.
Companies with widespread consumer influence can easily provide this space by promoting more women to C-suite positions, centering marketing campaigns around real women, and investing in female-led initiatives. Procter & Gamble has supported Save the Children's efforts in this area.
In some sectors like beauty and wellness, taking these actions has led to meaningful brand growth and consumer engagement. Now it's time for other sectors, such as technology, finance, and medicine, to follow suit.
