A Compton man, Elpidio Reyna, is set to be sentenced for throwing rocks at law enforcement officers during an immigration enforcement operation in June 2025. The incident occurred near a Home Depot store in Paramount, where federal officers were attempting to detain individuals.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Reyna pleaded guilty in February to assaulting a federal officer with a deadly or dangerous weapon resulting in bodily injury.

The plea agreement states that Reyna lit objects on fire and threw rocks at law enforcement vehicles, causing glass to shatter and injuring an officer by cutting his forehead.

Reyna was taken into custody on July 23, 2025, after being identified as the assailant in video footage and photographs released by the FBI. He had fled to Mexico but agreed to surrender and was arrested at the San Ysidro Port of Entry in San Diego.
