Pharma ETF Price Action Turns Uncertain Amid Technical Concerns

Instruments

Share

The iShares US Pharmaceuticals ETF (IHE) has been on a hot streak since June, outperforming other sectors. However, this trend may be cooling off as recent price action becomes increasingly sketchy.

The fund's portfolio is highly concentrated, with a significant weighting of Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) and Eli Lilly (LLY), making up 43% of the total holdings. The top ten holdings account for 76% of the portfolio, indicating a high degree of risk if these stocks experience volatility.

From a technical perspective, IHE has breached its trendline support, suggesting a possible correction to $97 over the next few months, specifically by October. This is in addition to unfavorable seasonality for the fund during September and October, which may exacerbate any downward pressure.
