Compulsion Games Wins Back Independence After Microsoft Buyout
Compulsion Games is now an independent studio after a management buyout was completed. The company, which developed the award-winning game South of Midnight, had been under the Xbox Game Studios banner for some time. CEO Guillaume Provost explained that Microsoft has transferred the intellectual property back to Compulsion Games.
The buyout means that when you purchase South of Midnight or other Compulsion Games titles, the studio will now receive a larger share of the revenue without any involvement from Microsoft. This change comes as part of a wider restructuring at Xbox after recent layoffs and the 'reset' period.
Compulsion Games was one of several studios affected by the turmoil at Xbox. In the past, the studio had been looking for new partnerships and opportunities outside of its current affiliation with Microsoft.
