Consumer Goods Giants Unite for Recyclable Paper Packaging
Six consumer goods giants have joined forces in the PaperFlex Consortium to advance recyclable and biodegradable flexible packaging made from paper. The consortium, backed by RE(SET), aims to target regions where inadequate collection and recycling infrastructure risks sending plastic waste into nature.
Founding participants include Unilever, Nestle, PepsiCo, Procter & Gamble, Colgate-Palmolive, and Mars. Their mission is to create substitute formats that can be recycled once collection networks mature, or break down naturally if they become litter.
The consortium plans to organize joint trials for innovations including biodegradable coatings and other technologies addressing product protection, shelf life, and ease of use for consumers.
