Copilot Apps Merging Ahead of Microsoft's Planned Super App Debut
Microsoft is combining its consumer and Microsoft 365 Copilot apps into a single unified experience. This move marks the first step towards the company's planned 'super app' debut later this year.
The merged app will retain separate personal and work data, with users seeing minor navigation tweaks if they previously used Microsoft 365 Copilot. Standalone consumer Copilot app users will see their chats and content automatically carried over to the new app.
One notable change is that users can now jump straight from a conversation in the unified app into Word, Excel, or Outlook without leaving the app. However, not all features make the cut: podcasts and deep research capabilities are being retired, as well as group chat threads and messages after August 18th.
The rollout begins with mobile and web apps this month, followed by Windows and Mac apps in mid-September. Microsoft warns that Shopping and Copilot Health may be temporarily unavailable during the update process.
