Couple Celebrates 50 Years of Marriage with a Trip Down Memory Lane

A metro Atlanta couple is celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary at the same McDonald's restaurant where they first fell in love. Mike and Susan Burks married in 1976 and frequently ate at the McDonald's on Northside Parkway, ordering their usual meal of Big Macs, fries, and a Coke.

'When we first got married, we lived around the corner in Vinings, and Susan didn't cook much,' Mike said. 'She sort of does now.' They would often eat there twice a day, five times a week, because it was convenient.

Today, they returned to their favorite restaurant to celebrate 50 years of marriage and to reminisce about the past. The Burks say the secret to a lasting marriage is simple: 'Don't give up, and lots of laughs through the tears.'
