Cowboy Clean Fuels Sells First Durable Carbon Removal Credits in Salesforce-Backed Purchase
Cowboy Clean Fuels, a Wyoming-based climate-tech company, has made its first sale of durable carbon removal credits. The sale was part of a purchase made by Salesforce through Milkywire, with delivery in 2026. This marks Cowboy Clean Fuels' entry into the durable carbon removal market, adding CDR credit sales alongside its existing business of producing carbon-neutral renewable natural gas (RNG).
The company's biomass carbon removal and storage pathway, built on Wyoming's subsurface, involves injecting agricultural processing residues into depleted coalbed methane reservoirs. Indigenous microorganisms anaerobically digest the biomass, generating RNG while permanently absorbing CO2 onto the coal surfaces.
Cowboy Clean Fuels operates the only patented BiCRS + RNG pathway currently available to buyers, which offers a combination of durable geologic storage and renewable gas production. The company's projects are certified under the Absolute Carbon Standard and have been independently assessed by Climate Vault Solutions.
