Cramer Considers Ditching Amazon for Rival That Leapt 24% in a Month
Jim Cramer's comments on CNBC's Squawk on the Street have sent shockwaves through the tech world. On September 28, 2026, he said that Meta Platforms' (NASDAQ:META) AI shopping demo had impressed him so much that he might quit using Amazon. This comes just three days after he listed Amazon as a recession-proof buy.
Cramer was referring to Meta's new AI assistant that searches all retailers, rather than just one like Amazon's Rufus assistant. He noted that this could threaten Amazon's $19.8 billion ad business by replacing it as the default place shoppers start their product searches. Meta has already reached 3.60B daily active people across its apps.
Amazon has its own answer, with management saying over 350 million customers used Alexa for Shopping in the past 12 months, and those users spend over 40% more per order. Meta launched Meta Enterprise on the same day Cramer spoke, and he said Meta has a 'first mover advantage' in this area.
The comments came as Meta rose 24% from August 28 to September 28, 2026, while Amazon fell 8% over the same period. Since then, Amazon's decline has narrowed, but the gap is still wide.
