Critical Infrastructure Exposed: Cybersecurity Blind Spots Revealed
Honeywell Technologies has released its 2026 Operational Technology (OT) Cybersecurity Benchmark Report, highlighting significant cybersecurity blind spots in critical infrastructure.
The report surveyed over 600 global industrial cybersecurity leaders across various sectors, including energy, oil and gas, healthcare, maritime, and manufacturing. The findings reveal a disconnect between perceived and actual OT cybersecurity maturity, with 88% of respondents claiming their programs are mature, but only 21% having a complete inventory of OT assets.
The average organization experienced 16.2 hours of downtime due to significant cybersecurity incidents, resulting in losses of up to $500,000 per hour. The report also found that 99% of respondents expect AI to impact OT security within the next two to three years, yet only 23% use autonomous or agentic operation for threat detection.
The survey indicates that organizations with stronger visibility are four times better positioned to identify threats, respond to incidents, and restore operations quickly. The report's findings suggest that cyber incidents are no longer viewed solely as technology events but also operational issues affecting employee safety, customer service, and production continuity.
