CScale Secures $145M in Funding to Revolutionize AI Data-Centre Connectivity
CScale, a Silicon Valley startup, has secured $145 million in venture capital to develop optical connectivity technology for AI data-centre chips. The funding round was led by Nvidia and Intel, with other notable investors including Atreides Management, Valor Equity Partners, and Premji Invest.
The company's CEO, Martin Lund, who previously held a position at Cisco Systems, declined to provide specifics about the technology but stated that it would integrate lasers onto chips without disrupting data flow when failures occur.
CScale plans to ship its chips by 2028. This investment marks the latest development in Silicon Valley's efforts to replace copper cables with optical connections for AI data centers. Optical connections use laser light instead of electrons, which can be prone to frequent failures and require replacement.
