Cyberattackers Adapt Techniques, Exploit Weaknesses in Digital Environments
Cyberattackers are adapting their techniques to exploit weaknesses in digital environments, according to Microsoft. AI has accelerated the pace of cyberattacks, which can now combine familiar vulnerabilities into attack paths that cross identities, endpoints, applications, networks, and AI systems.
Microsoft introduced Secure Now within its Security Exposure Management tool to help security teams prioritize actions needed for AI adoption. The company's customers are asking how to reduce risk by governing agent identities and tools, isolating execution, restricting outbound connectivity, monitoring behavior, and defending against increasingly autonomous external cyberthreats.
Cyberattackers are exploiting everyday operations, such as impersonating IT support through Microsoft Teams or using PowerShell to download malicious software. Security leaders can disrupt these paths with phishing-resistant access controls, managed-device requirements, endpoint attack surface-reduction rules, and tighter restrictions on remote-support tools and WinRM.
