Cyprus Accelerates Aphrodite Gas Field Development with Chevron
The development of the 'Aphrodite' gas field is a top priority for Cyprus, and significant progress has been made, according to President Nikos Christodoulides. During a meeting with Chevron's President of Base Assets and Emerging Countries, Javier La Rosa, in New York on September 22, the President emphasized that it's time to move from planning to implementation.
The meeting aimed to reaffirm the shared commitment to advancing the development of the field based on the approved Development and Production Plan. The next steps toward reaching a Final Investment Decision (FID) were also discussed, with a focus on maintaining momentum and accelerating the process.
The President underlined the importance of energy cooperation between Cyprus and Egypt, highlighting the progress made toward utilizing natural gas from 'Aphrodite' through Egypt's existing infrastructure. This development is expected to create substantial prospects for the commercial exploitation of fields in Cyprus' Exclusive Economic Zone and strengthen regional energy planning and interconnectivity in the Eastern Mediterranean.
