Dallas Stars Abandon Victory+, Switch to Amazon Prime After 'Financial Mismanagement'

The Dallas Stars have left Victory+, a streaming platform that allowed fans to watch games for free, due to 'financial mismanagement' by its leadership. The team's local broadcasts will now be streamed on Amazon Prime, one of six NHL teams making the switch this season.

Team President and CEO Brad Alberts said the Stars lost 'double-digit millions' after Victory+ collapsed. He attributed the platform's demise to poor management decisions made by its leadership at A Parent Media Company (APMC). The company had terminated all its employees earlier this week via email, and its streaming app has filed for receivership in Canada.

The Stars were one of several teams that partnered with Victory+, which saw improved viewership numbers after switching from Bally Sports. However, the platform ultimately failed to recoup its losses. Alberts said the team tried everything to save it but couldn't overcome the financial damage caused by APMC's mismanagement.

The Stars will continue to prioritize higher viewership over profit, at least for now. They know that requiring an additional subscription fee would hurt viewership and have opted for the Amazon Prime model instead. Alberts said the team had a 'very difficult summer' dealing with the collapse of Victory+ and the impact it had on its fans and employees.
