Dangote Awards Honeywell $300 Million Contract for Kenya Refinery Project
Dangote Group has awarded Honeywell Technologies a $300 million contract for engineering and technology services related to a new refinery project in Kenya. This collaboration builds on nearly a decade of partnership, particularly the work done for Dangote’s Lekki refinery in Nigeria. The contract covers licensing, engineering, catalysts, and digital services, with the facility designed to produce gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, and polypropylene.
The project is notable for its accelerated timeline, with Dangote expecting the Kenya refinery to come online nearly two years faster than a standard new-build. This efficiency is made possible by reusing large-train engineering designs from the Lekki refinery, which reduces development time and execution risk.
The Kenya refinery will also feature crude flexibility, allowing it to process a wide range of feedstocks from multiple regions. This adaptability helps hedge against supply disruptions and price volatility. Aliko Dangote emphasized the project’s role in expanding Africa’s refining capacity and enhancing the continent’s energy security.
Honeywell Technologies has been a key partner in Dangote’s African energy strategy, providing full lifecycle support from development to workforce training. The company’s approach of leveraging proven technologies and digital tools has helped streamline the Kenya project, reflecting a broader trend in emerging markets to reduce costs and delays in large-scale infrastructure.
