Dangote Secures $300m Deal with Honeywell for Kenya's $16 Billion Lamu Refinery
Dangote Group, led by President and CEO Aliko Dangote, has secured a $300 million deal with Honeywell Technologies for technology, engineering services, and equipment for its planned $16 billion Lamu refinery in Kenya.
The project aims to process 700,000 barrels of crude per day, generate 1,000 megawatts of electricity, produce one million tonnes of polypropylene, and base oil. Dangote emphasized the importance of political and institutional support for large-scale African investments, citing the rapid progress made on the Kenyan project.
The technology partnership between Dangote Group and Honeywell is expected to shorten the project development schedule by nearly 30%, compared to a typical new refinery. The companies plan to reuse proven engineering designs developed for the Lekki refinery in Nigeria. This approach will cut the development timeline by about two years, or 40 months, as Dangote has committed.
