Dangote Teams with US Firm Honeywell for $300 Million Kenyan Refinery
Africa's richest man, Dangote, has partnered with US-based Honeywell for a $300 million deal to build a 700,000-barrel-per-day refinery in Kenya. This project is expected to produce petrol, diesel, and jet fuel for the domestic market, with additional supplies exported across East Africa.
Honeywell's experience working on Dangote's Nigerian refinery will help shorten the development timeline for the Kenyan project by nearly two years. The company is already upgrading the Nigerian refinery, which will increase its capacity to 1.4 million barrels per day.
The Kenyan refinery will have the flexibility to process different types of crude from multiple sources, and Dangote has offered East African governments a combined 30% stake in the project. Kenya has expressed interest in taking a 10% stake, while Ethiopia and Rwanda have also shown interest.
