Dangote's Kenya Refinery Project Gains Momentum with Honeywell Partnership
Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote has made another significant move in his ambitious refining plans, partnering with Honeywell Technologies to provide engineering services and equipment for his planned $16 billion refinery in Kenya. The facility is expected to be the world's largest single-train refinery once completed.
The contract between Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE and Honeywell is worth approximately $300 million and covers process technologies, licensing, engineering services, proprietary catalysts, equipment, and digital solutions for the 700,000-barrel-per-day refinery in Lamu. This partnership extends a relationship that has already played a role in Dangote's Nigerian refining operations.
The use of established designs from the Nigerian refinery could reduce the development schedule for the Kenyan facility by nearly two years or about 30% compared to the typical timeline for newly constructed facilities. The technology package will also allow the refinery to process a broad range of crude oils, from light to heavy grades.
