Data Center Power Crunch Fuels Demand for Nuclear Energy and Hardware Suppliers

The demand for data centers has been skyrocketing in recent years due to the growing need for artificial intelligence and cloud computing. However, this increased demand is putting a strain on electricity needs, leading to a power crunch in the industry.

Constellation Energy (CEG) is one of the companies benefiting from this trend. As the largest nuclear power fleet in the US, Constellation provides 24/7 carbon-free power that is ideal for data centers. The company's 20-year power purchase agreement with Microsoft is a prime example of this demand, with Microsoft restarting the Three Mile Island nuclear facility to meet its energy needs.

GE Vernova (GEV) is another company capitalizing on the trend. While it doesn't provide electricity directly, GE Vernova supplies the hardware needed to generate and distribute power, including data center equipment. The company's backlog has reached $176 billion, ensuring a steady stream of revenue for years to come.

Despite the strong demand for their products, both companies' stocks have seen significant price fluctuations this year. Constellation Energy is down over 25% year-to-date through August 20, while GE Vernova is up over 42%. However, analysts believe that these companies are well-positioned to deliver long-term results.
