Data Centers Get Smarter with New AI-Powered Grid Management Alliance
A new alliance between Emerald AI, Google, and NVIDIA is set to transform the way data centers consume electricity. The AI Energy Management Alliance (AEMA) aims to develop power-flexible design for AI infrastructure that can dynamically manage its electricity use in response to grid conditions.
The partnership comes at a critical time as traditional interconnection processes struggle to keep pace with the growing demand for computing power.
AEMA will focus on creating flexible data centers that can adjust their electricity drawn from the grid in several ways, including shifting computing workloads, discharging storage, using paired generation or responding to system contingencies.
The alliance's technology-neutral and performance-based approach ensures that any facility can deliver measurable services, regardless of its specific hardware or software. Key principles include defining ride-through, curtailment, and contingency-response obligations before a facility connects.
