Databricks Bolsters AI Security with Row Zero Acquisition
Big tech firms are acquiring specialized tools to supercharge AI impact by ensuring secure and auditable data foundations.
Databricks acquired Row Zero, a software company that develops a scalable cloud spreadsheet engine, on September 24, 2026. This integration allows users to work with massive datasets in familiar grid formats instead of exporting to unsecured files.
Row Zero's cloud spreadsheet scales up to billion-row data sizes, making it 1,000 times bigger than traditional spreadsheets like Excel and Google Sheets, which have a row limit of 1,048,576 rows and 10 million cells respectively.
The acquisition aims to bridge the gap between flexible user interfaces, advanced AI capabilities, and enterprise protection. Databricks' Genie AI agent will interact directly with Row Zero's spreadsheet, ensuring every action remains fully interpretable and auditable.
