Day Laborers Protest Home Depot's Ban on Hiring Site
A protest was held on Sunday afternoon at Mall 205 Home Depot in Southeast Portland to advocate for day laborer access.
The demonstration is a response to the store's recent enforcement that disallows day laborers from gathering in front of the hardware store as a hiring site.
Day laborers and Voz Workers' Rights Education Project and Adopt a Corner volunteers are asking GRE Management Services, Inc. and Rhino Property Management to negotiate continued access to the Home Depot entrance as a safe place for day laborers to seek work.
The organizers say they've repeatedly reached out to the store and building owners, but they've refused to enter negotiations to discuss the issue further.
