DC-8 Finds New Home in Aviation Education Program
The last U.S.-registered DC-8 aircraft has found a new home at Lynchburg Regional Airport, thanks to a collaboration between Liberty University and Boeing.
The DC-8, manufactured in 1968, completed its final flight in December 2025 after accumulating nearly 100,000 flight hours and traveling over 55 million miles during its service life.
Samaritan's Purse donated the aircraft to Liberty University, which plans to make it the centerpiece of its DC-8 Overlook at Preston Glenn Field.
The university will construct a public pavilion around the retired aircraft, featuring aircraft tours, aviation exhibits, educational programs, and hands-on activities covering various careers in the aerospace industry.
