Deaconess Health System has reached a settlement in a proposed class action lawsuit that accused the Illinois-based health care provider of sharing patient data with Meta Platforms Inc. and Google LLC without proper consent. The lawsuit alleged violations of the Electronic Communications Privacy Act, claiming that Deaconess incorporated online tracking tools on its website, enabling the unauthorized data disclosure.

The two plaintiffs and Deaconess Health System filed a joint stipulation of dismissal on October 23 in the US District Court for the Southern District of Illinois. The stipulation confirmed that the parties had finalized a settlement agreement, leading the plaintiffs to dismiss their individual claims with prejudice.

The lawsuit highlighted concerns over patient privacy and the use of third-party tracking technologies by health care providers. The settlement terms were not disclosed in the court filing, leaving the specifics of the agreement undisclosed.
