Delta Orders 30 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners for 2031 Delivery
Delta Air Lines has placed an order for 30 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners, with options for a further 30 aircraft. The order marks the airline's first purchase of the 787 family and its first new Boeing widebody order in nearly two decades.
The 787-10s will be used to both grow Delta's long-haul network and replace older widebodies. They will complement, rather than replace, the airline's existing fleet of Airbus A330 and A350 aircraft.
The first delivery of the 787-10 is scheduled for 2031, with the new Dreamliners expected to arrive in a phased manner through the early and mid-2030s. They will be used to replace Delta's oldest Boeing 767s, particularly those serving transatlantic and high-demand domestic and leisure routes.
The 787-10 offers substantial fuel-burn improvements and lower emissions per seat compared with older widebodies. It is also associated with a number of passenger-comfort features that have become selling points on long flights, including larger windows, a lower cabin altitude, and improved humidity levels.
