A Boeing 737-800 freighter operated by DHL had a dramatic arrival at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) after touching down from Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport (PHX) on August 26, 2026. As the aircraft braked, its brakes locked up, causing at least one tire to explode and catch fire.

The incident was caught on an online live stream, with multiple emergency services vehicles quickly responding to put out the blaze from a safe distance using their water cannons. The pilot told air traffic control that 'I don’t know if we blew a tire, but it feels like the brakes locked up.'

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident, but the runway had to be temporarily closed due to the damage caused.
