Diet Coke Drought Hits NYC: Residents Declare 'State of Emergency' Over Missing Soda

New York City's diet coke enthusiasts are in an uproar as their beloved soda has vanished from grocery deliveries. The crisis, which affects neighborhoods across all five boroughs, has been declared a 'state of emergency' by some residents.

Amazon Fresh customers have reported that Diet Coke cans have not been available since August 5th, while others claim to have experienced similar shortages at Fresh Direct, Costco, and Target. Although online searches show that cans are still available for purchase on these platforms, the situation feels peculiar given Coca-Cola's massive global presence.

The company generated nearly $48 billion in revenue last year, and its 30 'billion-dollar brands' include Diet Coke. Global volume for Diet Coke and Coca-Cola Light surged 7% in the second quarter this year, driven by growth in North America and Asia Pacific.

Kristen Hollingshaus, director of Diet Coke Breaks, attributes the recent popularity surge to social media's impact on cultural trends. She notes that cans are still flowing in the Bay Area, but flavored varieties like Diet Coke Lime and Cherry Diet Coke have become increasingly difficult to find.
