Dimon Calls for 'Big, Beautiful' Trade Pact with Europe to Counter China
JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon has proposed a new trade agreement between the US and Europe, aiming to counter China's economic influence.
Dimon's plan calls for significant economic and military reforms in Europe in exchange for a 'big, beautiful' free-trade pact with the US. He suggests that this agreement could extend to other democratic nations such as Canada, Mexico, Japan, South Korea, Australia, and the Philippines.
'An economic and geopolitical game changer,' Dimon said, adding that such trade connections would enable the US and its allies to 'set the global rules on trade' and unite against autocratic pressures. He believes a stronger Europe would be a more capable security partner and a stronger counterweight to China's economic power.
The JPMorgan CEO outlined three pillars of US power: military strength, economic dominance, and a renewed commitment to American values and the American dream. Dimon also warned against economic fragmentation, which he believes can lead to investment policies, regulations, and World Trade Organization (WTO) rules being used as tools of trade warfare.
