Disabled Traveler Exposes Accessibility Failures at Walt Disney World Resort

Disabled traveler and disability rights activist Andrea Dalzell recently took to social media to express her frustration with the inaccessibility of her Walt Disney World Resort hotel room. In a viral video, she highlighted several issues that made it difficult for her to navigate the space as someone who uses a wheelchair.

One of the main problems was the layout of the room itself, which Dalzell claimed did not meet minimum accessibility standards under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). She pointed out that the curtains were manual, making it hard for her to open or close them from her chair. Additionally, she had to move a coffee pot down from a high console and discovered there were no outlets nearby to plug it in.

Dalzell also criticized the thermostat controls, which were located on the side of the bed and required her to overextend herself to adjust. She was particularly frustrated with the closet, which did not have adjustable racks that could be lowered for easier access. Perhaps most concerning was the shower, where she claimed she had to roll in with her wheelchair and manually adjust the lever to determine whether the faucet or showerhead would flow.

Disney responded to Dalzell's criticism by moving her to a different room and offering a complimentary gift bag containing Disney-themed items. However, Dalzell's experience raises questions about the accessibility of Walt Disney World Resort accommodations for people with disabilities, particularly solo travelers who may not have assistance.
