Disney Accused of Inflating Streaming Prices in $50M Settlement
A $50 million settlement has been reached in an antitrust lawsuit against The Walt Disney Company. Subscribers of YouTube TV, DirecTV Stream, and FuboTV accused Disney of inflating prices for live pay television by raising its own prices. This conduct allegedly inflated the marketwide price of streaming services.
The plaintiffs are seeking damages and injunctive relief to halt Disney's anticompetitive practices. Disney denied wrongdoing but agreed to a partial settlement with YouTube TV and DirecTV Stream.
The settlement applies to subscribers who purchased a subscription between April 1, 2019, and March 31, 2026. Those in 'repealer jurisdictions' will receive 90% of the remaining settlement fund, while those in 'non-repealer jurisdictions' will get 10%. Claimants will receive a pro rata cash payment based on their subscription length.
