Disney Adds Efficiency Cast Member to Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster for Safety
Disney’s Hollywood Studios has introduced a new operational change to Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets to address safety concerns related to smartphone filming. The high-speed attraction, known for its linear induction motor (LIM) launch system that propels riders from 0 to 57 mph in 2.8 seconds, has faced challenges with guests attempting to record videos during the ride. Loose articles like smartphones can become dangerous projectiles at high speeds, posing risks to other riders and potentially interfering with the track.
To mitigate these risks, Disney has added a dedicated efficiency cast member position in the loading area. This role focuses on ensuring guests remove bags and secure loose items before boarding. The cast member also reminds riders to stow smartphones and other recording devices, helping to streamline the boarding process and reduce operational delays. This proactive approach aims to keep the attraction running smoothly and minimize safety hazards.
The new position is part of Disney’s broader effort to reinforce safety messaging, particularly as interest in the Muppets-themed ride remains high. While filming is allowed on some slower attractions, high-speed coasters require strict adherence to loose-item policies. By assigning a specific cast member to manage boarding requirements, Disney hopes to improve efficiency, reduce ride holds, and enhance the overall guest experience.
For visitors planning to ride Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster, Disney recommends securing all loose items early, following cast member instructions, and using available storage pouches in the vehicles. These measures ensure a safer and more enjoyable ride for everyone.
