Disney and TikTok Partner on Global Content-Sharing Deal
The Walt Disney Company and TikTok have entered into a global content-sharing deal that will bring fan-created content to the Disney+ app. The agreement, which will pilot in the US this month with plans for other markets to follow, will give creators access to a vast library of assets related to hundreds of films and series from Disney's brands, including Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, FX, and more.
According to the companies, the deal represents a significant shift towards embracing fan-created content, which is increasingly playing an important role in how audiences discover and engage with entertainment. Asad Ayaz, chief marketing and brand officer at Disney, noted that 'the best storytellers are fans first,' and this collaboration will give creators a bigger stage to share their work.
The deal also includes the Disney Creator Ambassador Program, which will provide creators with increased visibility, access to exclusive events, and career development pathways. TikTok's global head of entertainment, Dawn Yang, added that 'creators are at the heart of everything we do,' and this partnership will bring the authentic creator expression of the TikTok community to Disney+.
Disney has been expanding its offerings of vertical video and short-form content in recent months, and this deal represents a key step towards building relationships with the next generation of creative talent. The companies noted that fan-created content continues to play an increasingly important role in how audiences discover, engage, and celebrate entertainment.
