Disney Axes Play Disney Parks App Amid Major Changes to Its Mobile Experience
The Walt Disney World app is undergoing significant changes this week. The Play Disney Parks app will be retired on September 16th, and users will no longer be able to log in or access the app from the Apple and Google Play stores.
The app was first introduced in 2018 as a response to the rise of mobile gaming, providing guests with games and features that could be played depending on their location at Disney World or Disneyland Resort. The app included popular experiences such as DuckTales World Showcase Adventure in EPCOT and Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge.
However, the biggest impact of the app shutdown will be felt in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. The in-park screen elements around Galaxy's Edge will still be accessible with the use of MagicBand+, but the Play Disney Parks element of the scavenger hunt and the popular Star Wars: Datapad feature will be removed.
