Disney Backs Politician Who Threatened Companies Promoting Diversity
The Walt Disney Company has been accused of hypocrisy after supporting Attorney General James Uthmeier, who has a history of railed against Muslims and LGBTQ-inclusion. In 2022, Disney claimed to be offended by Florida's 'Don't Say Gay' law and paused its political donations in the state.
However, behind closed doors, Disney had been helping finance campaigns for politicians who opposed equal rights. Now, with Uthmeier up for re-election, Disney is reportedly hosting a $25,000-a-head fundraiser for him at its Orlando resort next month.
This move has sparked outrage, as Uthmeier has a record of threatening companies that promote diversity. In 2022, he threatened one manufacturer after car dealers donated over $50,000 to his campaign.
Disney's support for Uthmeier and other politicians is seen as transactional, with the company donating millions of dollars to those who can do them favors in return.
